Bowman Constructors is proud to announce its collaboration with Hometown Health Center (HHC) and Harriman Architects on an exciting new healthcare facility set to elevate the standard of care in the Sebasticook Valley region. This innovative project, located at 55 Fletcher Drive in Palmyra, marks a significant milestone in addressing the unique healthcare needs of the local community. Groundbreaking for the project took place on July 23, 2024, as community members, healthcare partners, and local stakeholders gathered to celebrate the beginning of this transformative venture.
As the lead contractor, Bowman Constructors will leverage nearly 40 years of experience in constructing high-quality, sustainable healthcare facilities. The new HHC campus will not only offer comprehensive medical services but will serve as a beacon of wellness, providing an integrated approach to healthcare, including behavioral health, fitness, and nutritional education.
A Holistic Approach to Healthcare
In a region where access to medical services has been limited, Hometown Health Center is committed to bridging gaps in care. With its designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center, HHC’s new facility will provide essential services to underserved populations, including a sliding-fee scale, medical and behavioral health services, and programs to improve community wellness.
This facility goes beyond traditional healthcare offerings. In addition to medical services, it will feature a state-of-the-art wellness suite with a teaching kitchen, gym equipment, a walking track, and spaces for physical therapy and group activities like yoga and basketball. A community garden and food bank will work to combat food insecurity, a critical issue in many Maine communities, and empower residents to make healthier choices.
Supporting Families and Tackling Addiction
Recognizing the ongoing challenges faced by many rural families, the facility will include much-needed daycare services, helping working families find balance. Furthermore, HHC is taking a proactive stance in combating the opioid crisis by incorporating a Recovery Center into the design, offering intensive addiction treatment and support.
The center will also feature addiction prevention education in HHC’s School Based Health Center, reflecting a commitment to addressing the crisis early and supporting youth before they face addiction.
A Partnership Rooted in Community
Bowman Constructors’ President Kevin Bowman emphasized the community-driven nature of the project, stating, “We are honored to partner with Hometown Health Center on a facility that will not only provide healthcare but serve as a cornerstone of wellness for the entire region.” This sentiment echoes the mission of Bowman Constructors to prioritize community-focused, sustainable, and functional construction solutions that enhance the lives of local residents.
Harriman Architects, as the architectural lead, will ensure that the facility’s design reflects this mission of community-centric care, incorporating spaces that foster wellness, social engagement, and environmental sustainability. The building will be adaptable, ready to meet the evolving needs of healthcare for generations to come.
This collaboration represents more than just a construction project—it symbolizes a new chapter in community health for the people of Palmyra and the surrounding areas. Through innovative design and a holistic approach to care, Bowman Constructors, Hometown Health Center, and Harriman Architects are coming together to build not just a facility, but a brighter, healthier future for the region.
